Band 8 IELTS letter sample
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my concern about the proposed plan to demolish the famous building ‘The Herald’ which has recently completed its centenary. My name is XYZ and I am resident of your city.
The building has been the most cherished heritage of our town for many years now. I am quite disturbed by the fact that our local council has decided to pull it down due to lack of funds for its refurbishment. ‘The Herald’ is known for its sculptured interior and exterior which belong to pre independence era. It depicts mesmerizing hand-made carvings on the walls showcasing the local culture. It is a popular destination for tourists from all across the world.
I understand that the structure of the building has worn out over time and needs refurbishment. So I urge my council to consider the renovation as the only option in order to save this master-piece for our future generation and to attract tourists from all over the world.
In order to meet the expenses I suggest that the council should ask for donations from the local people and once the building is repaired a nominal fee can be charged from the visitors for its maintenance.
I hope you will ponder over my request and take appropriate action.
Yours sincerely
