Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

It is believed that good handwriting does not hold any importance in today’s era because writing has been replaced by typing. This essay strongly disagrees with the statement. Firstly, good handwriting always fetches great academic results. Secondly, handwriting develops focus on the thinking ability of an individual.

To begin with, though there are many institutions with digital platforms the examinations are still being conducted offline. Moreover, good handwriting always plays a major role in every student’s life as it enables them to score good results and build confidence. It is still important especially on crucial exams like board exams where your papers are evaluated by people who do not know you. If your writing is not legible, they may not even bother to read your answers. This can seriously hurt your score.

Another advantage of developing good handwriting is that it improves your thought process. While typing is a passive activity, writing requires more effort. When people pay attention to their handwriting, knowingly or unknowingly, they are paying attention to detail. This improves their thought processes and overall chances of success. Eventually, it translates into success in other aspects of their life as well. Actually, it is said that you can even deduce someone’s character from their handwriting.

In conclusion, good handwriting is still important. No matter how much technology improves, there will still be situations where we have to scribble something on a piece of paper. If handwriting is legible, people will want to read it. Hence, in my opinion, both parents and teachers should encourage children to work on their handwriting skills.
