In contemporary settings, computer-based games have gained popularity among youngsters all over the world. Under this circumstance, some people believe that such games have hardly any educational value and could even be harmful to children. I completely agree with them.
To commence with, most video games are not as educational as school activities. Although some web-based games can encourage children’s concentration, and problem solving by requiring players to follow various commands and cooperate with their coworkers to try to solve complex problems, these skills can be better gained through team-work oriented and outdoor activities. For example, when children play football, they will do their utmost to defeat their counterparts by cooperating with their coworkers, and these processes can enhance their problem solving and team skills.
Besides, computer games have obvious negative impacts on young people’s health and studies. Gaming can be highly addictive because users are constantly given scores, new targets and frequent rewards to keep them playing. Many children now spend hours every day trying to progress through the levels of a game or to get a higher score than their friends. This type of addiction may result in the lack of exercise and lead to health problems like obesity. Also, young students may fail exams at school when they spend a few more hours on the computer or console without doing their homework. With poor academic performance, children can hardly pursue higher education and find a decent job in the future.
In conclusion, I completely agree with the view that computer games are of limited educational value and are harmful to children’s upbringing.

Nowadays computer games are one of the most widely used medium of entertainment in the world. Irrespective of the age, everyone seems to enjoy playing computer games and especially kids who can get lost in video games for countless hours without parental intervention. I agree with the argument that computer games have detrimental effect on children; however, they also teach them some important skills.
Children can spend hours playing video games if not interrupted by their parents. Constant exposure to bright screens can raise serious health concerns for them. Children who play a lot of computer games also ignore outdoor activities and lead a very sedentary life. This also affects their health and wellbeing.
However, I will differ when it comes to questioning the educational values of computer games. The computer games market is swamped with many different of games. Every game requires unique set of skills to be employed if the player intends to excel. Hence children playing these games tend to develop those specific skills and characteristics. Games usually focus on reflexes, alertness, concentration, strategy, coordination and many other skills. Hence, if used judiciously such games can also help develop certain skills which I believe is essential in real life situations as well.
To conclude, the video game does have negative effects on kids; however every game also helps kids develop certain skills which also have certain level of importance in real life. So if chosen correctly these games can be used to develop specific skill sets in children based on their requirements. Hence, in my opinion it is inaccurate to undermine the educational value of video games in the lives of young children.
