Nowadays, there is an unprecedented rise in car ownership all over the world. I completely agree with the statement that it leads to traffic congestion in many cities. The main reason for this is the affordability of cars and the lack of improvement in road infrastructure. The best approach to deal with the issue is improving affordable public transport and increasing restrictions on car ownership.
Needless to say, the remarkable rise in the number of cars is highly due to advanced technology. In other words, nowadays, many companies offer new cheap cars to their customers. In addition, every year these companies launch new models with significant features which attract buyers. However, the development of road infrastructure is not proportional to the number of cars. Thus, it has dire consequences such as traffic congestion and rise in carbon footprints.
To tackle the issue, the higher authorities need to work on different approaches and dissuade the public from purchasing more cars. The most effective method is offering reliable public transport. If there are different means of public transport which offer convenient and comfortable experiences to the travelers, it substantially curbs the use of private vehicles. For example, in Delhi, the fastest and most preferred mode of transportation is Delhi Metro which surprisingly not only reduces the use of private vehicles but also helps in lowering the air pollution. Furthermore, if the governments use the budget effectively and reduce the ticket price of trains and buses, it will certainly encourage the public to use public transport. Moreover, if the governments increase the taxes and implement a policy of one car per family it could mitigate environmental issues as well as traffic problems.
To conclude, in today’s world there are tremendous increases in car ownership which result in traffic congestion in many countries. In my perspective, this statement is completely true due to the availability of cheaper cars. However, this probably can be managed by raising the standard of public transport.
