Band 7 letter sample | Letter to friend

Here is a letter submitted by one of our students.

A friend has agreed to look after your house and pet while you are on holiday. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter, you have to:

• give contact details for when you are away
• give instructions about how to care for your pet
• describe other household duties

Dear Mujahed,

Thank you so much for honouring my request, and accepting to take care of my place during my vacation. I trust that the house will be in good hands. I am writing this letter to provide you with some information that you will need.

First and foremost, if you are unsure about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me at anytime. I will be reachable through my local mobile number. Alternatively, you can call the hotel, and leave me a message if I am not in. I have posted the complete hotel details on the fridge.

I would also like to inform you that my cat, Lucy, is very much used to a certain routine. You will need to feed it at 8 am every morning. Also, you don’t have to worry about keeping the door open. Lucy has it’s own way of coming back in to the house.

There is not much to do concerning the house chores. All you need to do is water the plants twice a day. As for the bins, the blue one is for recyclable items, and the green one is for other wastes.

This is a good letter. The student has used appropriate vocabulary and tone.  Task completion is fine. However, there are some grammar mistakes.

Overall, this seems to be a band 7 – 7.5 letter.
