The given line graph illustrates the value of platinum per ounce in US dollars during the period between 1960 and 2005.

It is obvious that the platinum cost followed an upward trend despite certain fluctuations during specific time periods. Also, the lowest price was observed in 1961 whereas the highest one was seen in 2005.

To be more specific, platinum started at approximately $100 per ounce in 1961 and its price remained almost the same over a period of about 7 years before reaching a peak of around $250 in 1968. After that, there was some volatility over the next 12 years. The prices hit approximately $700 per ounce in 1981. Afterwards there was a substantial fall in prices.

From 1982 to 2004, the cost of platinum ranged substantially between a low of $300 and a high of $600, before eventually rising exponentially to more than $850 in 2005.
