Band 7.5 IELTS report sample
The pie chart compares the percentage of various modes of transportation people used to travel to and from work in the year 1959 and 2009. Overall, the use of cars for the daily commute increased to a great extent between 1959 and 2009.
By contrast, the percentage of people who went to work on foot decreased considerably. The average distance people travelled to reach office and come back to their home was 3.5 kilometers in 1959 and this distance rose to 19 kilometers in 2009. The average time taken for journeys to and from work increased from 17 minutes to 42 minutes between 1959 and 2009
55% of people travelled on foot in 1959 and it had declined to 25% by 2009. By contrast, the proportion of people who used car was 10% and it rose to 35% in 2009. People who used other modes of transportation also rose by 7% whereas the proportion of people who used buses and trains to travel to and from work place was almost the same during both the years at around 15%.
