Art is becoming increasingly popular in our society as it depicts our culture. In my opinion, it is necessary for children to learn arts as it improves their creativity along with providing numerous other benefits. However, they should be taught arts in tandem with academics, while giving more weightage to the latter.
To start with, there are many benefits to teaching arts to students. Firstly, art fosters imagination in young minds. Studies have proven that children who excel in an art form are more likely to perform well in studies. Adopting an extracurricular activity is also an escape from the monotony and stress of academic life. For example, engaging in singing, dancing and drawing is a great leisure activity that helps children to enjoy their free time. Moreover, participating in a cultural fest boosts their confidence, reduces stage fear and trains them to take success or failure in its spirit and that will be helpful for them in various phases / stages of life.
On the other hand, I personally do not think that they should be encouraged to focus on arts more than studies. Instead, they should be allowed to discover their talents and get trained in that along with the academics. The important point here is that a career in arts or sports is highly competitive and vulnerable. Even if a person is highly talented in an art form, he/she also needs a huge amount of luck to flourish in it. So, in my opinion, they should first complete their academic studies and after that, they can focus more on art if they want. In that case, even if the individual is not successful professionally in that art form, he always has an option to pursue an alternative career.
In conclusion, it is vital to nurture the artistic skills of young minds. However, education should be given more priority. If children are passionate about a particular art form, they should be given sufficient training in that but it should not be at the expense of their studies. As such, even if they fail to be successful in that profession, they can always resort to a job in the field they graduated in.
