Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

Nowadays, people are passionate about science, technology, and business, rather than art. This essay will discuss the underlying reason for this trend and the way to engage more people in art.

The public tends to devote more time and energy to study and work in science and business as they are becoming more practical and materialistic nowadays. In this information era, most jobs are available in sectors related to business and technology. For example, programmers, accountants and scientists are in huge demand.

These positions are usually well-paid so that people who work in these areas can make ends meet and even save enough to enjoy vacations and buy luxury goods. That’s why students work so hard to enter an engineering or business school and get relevant qualifications. In contrast, it is quite challenging for an artist to get recognized by the masses / gain recognition of the masses and get a high salary and enjoy a good life.

In my opinion, the government can take measures to attract people’s attention to art. Some art-related organizations and businesses, such as art galleries and crafts workshops, are on the verge of bankruptcy because they lack the financial and policy support from the government. If the government can allocate more funding to subsidize small art businesses, and talented artists, or lower the tax rate for startups, local business owners can run the company at a lower cost and generate more revenue. Thus they can possibly / will probably hire more artists or raise employees’ salaries, encouraging the young to study art and work in the art industry.

In conclusion, people are losing interest in arts because of the fewer job opportunities available in this sector; however, if the government takes measures to make art a viable career option, more and more young people will turn to it.
