Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

The governments are always looking for new methods to reduce crime. While some people think that longer prison punishments are the best method, others argue that there are alternative methods which can reduce the crime. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and provide evidence why longer prison sentences are ultimately the better way to reduce crime.

There are numerous reasons why longer prison punishments can reduce crime. Firstly, longer and strict prison punishment sends a strong message to the community that crime will not be tolerated. Consequently, many crimes do not happen due to the fear of extended and strict prison punishment. Furthermore, if anyone gets convicted of any crime, he will be sent to from the community so that he cannot commit any crime again.

On the other hand, not every criminal has to spend time behind the bar. Petty criminals should be counselled or made to do social service instead of being put in prison. This will give them an opportunity to reform themselves and give back to the society. However, criminals who commit heinous crimes like premeditated murder or rape deserve longer prison terms because they are threat to the society. Also, it is foolish to assume that they can be reformed by making them do community service.

To sum up, this essay discussed whether longer prison punishments are better than) alternative methods such as counselling. In my opinion, more extended prison punishment is ultimately the better way to reduce crime because it helps to deter potential offenders as well as prevent convicted criminals from recommitting any crime.

Some believe that education success is based on good teachers and others believe that it depends upon student’s attitude. Discuss both views and give your opinion with relevant example.

While education lays a foundation for shaping a student’s career. It is often believed by the majority of the people that Education success is solely due to the pupil’s attitude whereas others are of the opinion that educators are the prominent reason for this. This essay will shed light on both perspectives. However, in my opinion, credit should go to the excellent teachers.

To begin with, those who argue that a learner’s attitude is the cause of success in education. This is because of a student’s ability and interest to learn. In other words, one can achieve accomplishment in academic studies only if he/she desires for it. Although teachers contributed their effective teaching and skills to students and if the pupils don’t overcome difficulties of learning. This approach would be of no advantage. For example, in many developing countries, there is an ineffective schooling system where there are no qualified tutors. However, due to enthusiasm and dedication, many students excel in education.

On the other hand, great teachers are the right mentors who inculcate accurate knowledge to their students. A qualified educator can provide comprehensive information and fundamental concepts on different subjects such as mathematics, science, and arts. These modules need an expert to teach and assess candidates’ results. This method not only develops an individual’s skills but also leads to a wisdom society. For instance, according to a survey conducted among the age group of 5-15 of years, it was found that 75 percent of pupils preferred to learn by their teachers.

In conclusion, although it is argued by some that education success is mainly by student’s attitude. Nevertheless, I firmly reckon that great teachers are the reason for progress in education.

There are many benefits of sentencing offenders longer prison period. The longer the criminals who committed serious damage to others such as steal, violence, arson and murder are separated from the society, the higher the chances of the innocence being safe increases dramatically. During the time in prison, the offenders will have an opportunity to get them rehabilitated through many services available inside. For instance, they could reflect their own behaviour and educate themselves the way not to re-offend once they are released. Moreover, this long period of the prison sentence will work as a deterrent to future criminals.
