Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

Many individuals opine that one should seek advice from elderly people while others do not agree with this notion. I strongly advocate the former idea. This essay will discuss both of the viewpoints along with some suitable examples in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Let us discuss the advantages of considering the opinion of old people. The first and the foremost point is that elderly people have more life experiences than younger ones. As a result they can provide an opinion based on their past experiences. Moreover, their eyes can be more judgmental than ours. There are chances that they may have tackled the same situation, in which we are today, in their past.  Additionally, seniors have better analytical skills. They are also more patient and rationale. This enables them to make unbiased judgments.

Let us throw some light on the second opinion. It is rightly said that every coin has two sides. Elderly people are more conservative / old fashioned. They do not understand the fine aspects of the advanced era. Moreover, sometimes they may not want to lose their traditional thinking. As a result they give some irrelevant opinion. For instance, when we ask our grandmothers to suggest a nice dress for a party, they usually fail to think according to the contemporary fashion and suggest something which is out dated.

In a nutshell, it would be apt to say that old people can give the best advice in all aspects of life except certain fields such as fashion and technology. Otherwise they have excellent life experiences which always help them to give efficient advice.

It is commonly believed by many that the elderly people can provide best advice because of their rich experience. However, others tend to oppose this idea and believe young minds being aware of modern technologies can offer better advice. This essay agrees with the former opinion and will discuss both viewpoints in detail.

On the one side, some people hold a firm belief that people should approach old people for seeking any advice. This is because, old people has spent their entire life in learning new things and making experiences, which essentially is beneficial in giving best advice. Moreover, old people suggestions are reliable and long term. The reason being, such people consider all the aspects of problem, before reaching at any conclusion and therefore, offers a wise advice. To exemplify, according to the recent survey conducted by the Times of India, the elderly people’s advice is considered as a word of wisdom in many successful families.

On the other hand, young people being aware of modern tools and technologies are a best advisor according to many. In other words, youngsters have a wide range of online resources available to deal with the modern problems, whereas old people having lack of awareness of modern gadgets, would not be able to provide efficient solution to modern problems. For instance, most of the school graduates ask their teachers or professors for the career guidance, instead of parents because parents have limited knowledge of modern employment system and can provide inappropriate advice.

To conclude, although some people consider youngsters can offer better advice due to their understanding of modern society. However, I believe elderly people with wide experience can suggest best advice
