Generally speaking, sufficient hours of sleep is required for mental and physical wellbeing. However, studies reveal that nowadays most people sleep less than in the past. This essay explores probable causes of sleep deprivation and its side effects.

With time, it is natural to have many changes in the dynamics of life, and some of them are responsible for lack of sleep. Firstly, in this competitive world corporations have extended the work hours. In other words, people have to work overtime. At the same time, they have family responsibilities to fulfill after work. For instance, they may have to help their children with their homework or do other odd jobs around the house and this leaves little time for sleep. Secondly, some people have the unhealthy habit of using social media till late night. Last but not least, television broadcasts a wide range of entertainment shows which are eagerly watched by their fans till midnight.

There are numerous negative effects to having less sleep. First and foremost, it reduces concentration and affects productivity. Unarguably, there is insurmountable pressure to meet deadlines at workplace, and hence anxiety, stress and strain augments due to compromised sleep. Secondly, the person may lose his temper as mental relaxation is not achieved in first place. Many times, personal relationships are affected because of confrontation regarding minor issues. To exemplify, divorce cases are on the rise because of disturbed mental state caused by sleep deprivation.

In a nutshell, to live a healthy life sufficient amount of sleep is imperative; otherwise, it may lead to many negative consequences as mentioned.

    Nowadays, it is globally noticed that people’s sleeping hours are less than they were a decade ago. This essay will discuss the causes of this trend and display its possible impacts on both individuals and society.

    It is an undeniable fact that recent generations are more stressed than their ancestors. To elaborate, because of the highly competitive world we are living in now, starting from being a student you have to work hard in order to be able to achieve your goals and prove yourself among thousands of hardworking peers. Consequently, the majority of students sleep 4 or 5 hours a day since they need extra time to finish their studies. Another clear example, the poverty rate is very high in many developing countries around the world where people struggle to survive. Thus, they are forced to work more than one job and work overtime to make ends meet. So, they can barely sleep 5 hours every day.

    Unfortunately, this issue has several detrimental effects on both persons and their societies. Firstly, psychological disorders’ incidences, such as depression , have dramatically increased as a result of decreasing sleeping hours. Secondly, the production rate of the society, undoubtedly, will be affected by the individual’s mental and physical health problems. So, this is indeed a cause for concern and the government should try to increase people’s awareness about the importance of adequate sleeping hours.

    In conclusion, many citizens do not have the chance to sleep well and this not only affects their health but also has detrimental effects on the society’s productivity rates.

    In recent years we have seen a considerable rise in people who are deprived of sleep. This essay enumerates the reasons why people lack sleep and the detrimental effects it has on individuals and society. The negative trend of sleep among people, is due to more work pressure and overuse of technology. This outbreak causes mental and health issues on people thereby create an unhealthy society.

    The major reason why people lack sleep these days is due to work pressure. For instance, the job targets and deadlines haunt the person and they tend to brainstorm more about it during the night hours. Hence due to recurrent thinking they lack sleep. Moreover, in the Software industry people work more during the night shifts to get in touch with their clients. Eventually, this affects their biological clock.

    Another reason behind the trend of losing sleep is the overuse of technology. For example, youngsters use more social networking platforms and get involved in them during the night hours. Children play mobile games such as Farmville, Candycrush and Yuno during night hours so that the parents do not notice them. Hence, the extreme use of mobile phones has created sleepless nights for most people.

    The aforementioned reasons has created a sedentary lifestyle and affected the people by making them unhealthy. Excessive sleeplessness gives way to mental sickness called depression. Psychologists have reported 70% of adults are going through acute depression syndromes due to insufficient sleep. Obesity has also been a major concern in our society. As a result, the health and mental wellbeing of the society have been affected.

    To conclude, people these days have less sleep due to factors such as work pressure and extreme use of mobile phones. Consequently, it makes a person unhealthy and makes them prone to varied diseases. Campaigns could be conducted by the medical department to make people aware of the importance of sleep, and the diseases caused due to lack of sleep.
