Band 8 IELTS essay sample
Nowadays, many people spend most of their time working, which results in very little time for entertainment. I believe there are more drawbacks than benefits to this situation.
On the one hand, it appears to benefit employers and the nation when employees work long hours. When employees work for a longer time or even overtime, deadlines can be met sooner and this leads to huge financial gains for the employer. Also when people work long hours, the development of the country progresses more rapidly, and this helps to advance it to the top list in the world.
On the other hand, fewer leisure activities result in less time to recharge the batteries of workers and lead to two potentially serious issues. First, less rest time can cause less productivity. As a result, even if employees work longer hours, they will not be able to do much.
Second, people need to spend time to sharpen their skills in this fast-growing society, while their old skills are not enough to secure or advance in their positions anymore. Some of the training sessions and tutorials are developed with leisure activities where employees can expand their knowledge while having fun.
In conclusion, long working hours appear to be one step for people to attempt to help companies and the nation stand out, but if they get adequate leisure time to rejuvenate themselves and hone their skills, their work can be delivered more effectively.
