Band 8 IELTS essay sample

A lot of people believe that to be happy one needs to have a huge amount of money. I believe that while money is important for survival it is not necessary to achieve happiness. Happiness is a state of mind and is also tied to the wellbeing of the people we love.

Firstly, if money had been important to happiness, only rich people would have been happy. If we go by facts, that would mean that two thirds of the world population will be living an unhappy life. However, that is not the case. A lot of times we come across people who do menial jobs, but we still see a smile on their face. People who are suffering from dreadful diseases can be seen living their life cheerfully. In other words, being happy has more to do with contentment than the amount of money in the bank.

Secondly, happiness of an individual is somewhere also dependent on the happiness of the people they care for. A father no matter how rich he is cannot stay happy if his children are suffering from life threatening ailments with no cure. However, a father who is from a lower income group might be living a happy life if his children are healthy and living a normal life.

To conclude, while money is essential for meeting daily needs, it is not required for achieving happiness in life. Happiness can be derived from a positive mind set and by getting comfort from the well-being of your family.

For many centuries, money is acting as a medium for exchanging goods and services in the society. There is a firm belief that money is the key factor of being happy. The important role of money playing on happiness will be discussed afterward.

To begin with, people usually buy goods that they want or are in scarcity. For the population who are economically disadvantaged, in particular, always decide to throw their money at their basic needs. On the other hand, wealthy people spend their cash on brand-name goods because they feel happy when they are capable of having special items. Moreover, keeping lively, they spend their money on achieving some new goals from time to time. They would be satisfied as a winner if they could achieve success. For example, many millionaires play golf as their hobby. They can set a goal in their missions and then complete them.

However, such aspect can be argued that money does not always bring happiness to people since money cannot buy everything in the world such as love. This can be revised by reality. People must have expenses for wedding ceremony, bringing up their children and other members in their families, and so on. Having relationship with their own mates, in other words, they must still use money.

To conclude, the connection between money and happiness is that money can be used for buying goods and services that people want, and also achieving exciting goals.
