Irrevocable (adjective)

Meaning

 

Impossible to revoke, undo or change.

Synonyms: binding, irreversible, final, unchangeable, unalterable, permanent, conclusive

To revoke is to take back. If something cannot be revoked or taken back, it is called irrevocable.

  • She said that her decision to quit the job was irrevocable.
  • He had been doing drugs for a while. Then one fine morning he decided to quit, but by that point his decision to do so was irrevocable. (= At that point it was not possible to quit.)
  • My decision not to attend the meeting is irrevocable. There is nothing that you can do to make me change my mind.
