IELTS writing test in India – letter

The following question was asked on an IELTS test held in India in March 2012.

Write a letter to a bus company expressing the appreciation of the good service that you received from them recently.

Sample letter

Dear Sir / Madam:

We want you to know that we sincerely appreciate the outstanding service your company has given for us. We recently hired one of your buses for a trip to Agra. We had to take fifty students on a study tour and needed a reliable bus service. We are really impressed with the responsiveness and commitment with which your people conduct the business.

We came across your company while searching for an affordable bus service on the internet. We were impressed with your rates and the facilities you provide, and that is why we chose your service over other services. The bus we hired was quite spacious and seated 55 people comfortably.  Our students really liked your collection of DVDs which made the journey quite enjoyable. What’s more, your driver and his helpers knew almost everything about the places we had to visit and because of that we didn’t need to hire a guide to take us through the trip. They were quite friendly too and took us to the best hotels for staying at night.

We look forward to hiring your service again and we will definitely recommend it to others.
