IELTS Speaking Tips

The IELTS speaking module tests your ability to effectively communicate in English. The questions asked during the speaking test often repeat, so familiarize yourself with them. That said, don’t learn answers by heart. The examiners are trained to spot this and if they suspect that you are giving learned answers they may change the question.

Give descriptive answers. You don’t have to speak non-stop. However, make sure that you speak more than the examiner does. If you don’t understand a question ask for clarification.

The questions asked during the speaking test have no right or wrong answers. What you are required to give is your opinion.
