The following questions were asked on an IELTS speaking test recently held in India. Model answers are also given.

What is your name?

My name is Pavan Misra.

What can I call you?

You can call me Pavan. That’s what my parents and friends call me.

Where are you from?

I am from Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India.

Tell me something about your hometown.

Of course. I was born and brought up in Bangalore. Bangalore is the capital of the South Indian state of Karnataka. It is also known as the IT capital of India.

Can you describe the people of your hometown?

Sure. Because Bangalore is a big city, it is home to people from all over the country. And that is what I like best about the city. I have met and made friends with all sorts of people here. A large section of the population work in the IT industry and are well paid. Needless to say, the cost of living in Bangalore is pretty high.

What do you usually do on weekends?

For me weekends are the time to unwind. I usually spend my weekends with my friends and family. Sometimes I go for long drives with my friends. Sometimes I spend the weekend watch movies non-stop.

What did you do last weekend?

Well, I spent last weekend at a friend’s place. I hadn’t seen him in a while. So we did a lot of chatting, watched a movie, played some tennis and ate out. I like to spend time with my friends, so it was a totally enjoyable experience.

Do you have plans for the next weekend?

Well, I don’t usually make such plans but chances are I will spend the next weekend with my family. I have been constantly on the go for a while. This time around, I just want to stay at home and gorge on the delicious foods my mom makes.
