IELTS letter sample about belongings left in a hotel room

Question: You stayed in a hotel for some days in an overseas country. You have forgotten some things in the hotel room after checkout. Write a letter to the hotel manager. In your letter:

inform them about your stay:

describe the things that you have forgotten there
state what you want them to do now

Sample letter

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing this letter to seek your help in tracing my file which I left in your hotel. Last week I stayed in your hotel (Room No: 306) when I came to attend a conference in Edinburgh. I checked in on the 4th of February and checked out two days later on the 6th. The stay was nice and comfortable and the staff was polite and attentive.

Unfortunately, I forgot my file in the room where I stayed. I didn’t know that the file was missing until I reached my place this morning. That file is very important for me because it contains my academic certificates and some other important documents. If I don’t get it back, I will be in real trouble. As for the file it is black in colour. I left it in the drawer of the table near the window.

I would highly appreciate it if you can make arrangements to trace the file and deliver it to my address mentioned on the attached envelope. I will bear the postal charges.
