Band 8 IELTS essay sample

Computers and information technology are necessities in the modern society. This environment leads to a novice working system where office workers work from home. It is believed that working from home should be promoted because it is beneficial to both workers and employers. I agree with this view for some reasons.

On the other hand, workers reap many benefits when they work from home. First, they can save a substantial amount of energy by eliminating their efforts to commute to work. Most business entities are located / situated in the city center and workers spend around one hour to commute to work by their own vehicle or the public transportation. Either way makes people consume a considerable amount of energy in the morning and evening. Second, they can save money by cutting down on transportation costs. They can reduce cost pertaining to gas or fare. Thus, this system is economical to workers.

On the other hand, employers can also have benefits by allowing workers to work from home. First, they can lower the maintenance cost related to operating office. They do not need to secure a spacious working environment to accommodate all the staff every day. They need only nominal office space to run the business with fewer people working in the office. At the same time, they save money on stationary, snacks and other necessities. When there are fewer workers in the office, the cost of running the business will come down. Hence, this working style is beneficial to employers as well.

In conclusion, technology has made it possible for many people to work from home. I support this practice because it is advantageous to both workers and employers.

Some people believe that women should be treated as equal to men when applying for a job with police or the military. Others think women are less suitable for this kind of job. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Nowadays, gender equality is a hot topic for the discussions. while some argue that women are not suited to be in my military or in police force, others put their belief in them. In my opinion the gender should not be an eligibility criteria, if they have right attitude and qualities. The following essay discusses this view in detail.
At the outset, the major concern expressed on this course of matter is about the physical strength of women. It is true that, these profession demands good physical fitness and caliber. In military service female soldiers are more likely to be struggle to defend in mission when compared with their male counterparts. However, physical training is the best solution for this. Secondly, due to the nature of the job it is sometimes challenging for young mother in service. They often have to compromise their motherhood. But government ensure that they have compensational leaves and encouraged to take Maternity and childcare leaves.
Leaving these apart, women are proving that, like in any other profession, they are perfect fit in police and in military services. Especially, ladies feel more comfortable to approach women officers compared to male for reporting issues related to them and children. When gauging with male officers, female officers are often more dedicated and efficient in performing their duties. For instance, it is reported that female officers never fail to perform night patrolling and other regular activities.
Hence, after comparing both, I would like to iterate the point that ladies should be equally considered to be part of law enforcement departments like military and police forces, if they express the right attitude and poses the required qualities.

Some people say its a waste of time when plan for the future and its more important to focus on the present. Do you agree or disagree?

It is argued by some people that planning the future is useless and a waste of time. People should concentrate on the present as it is more significant. This essay disagrees with the statement because it can help people to be successful in life, and they can achieve their goals, and they will become more organized and learn time management.

Planning of the future plays an important role in the success of a person because it encourages them to do hard work towards their goal. In other words, people can divide their long term goals into several short-term goals, and it would be easy to achieve them. This will enable them to stay motivated, and that would further lead to success. For example, according to a report published by the Guardian, people who start preparations for their career at an early age are more successful in life than the others.
Another reason to consider is that it is beneficial for the future because they will be able to organize their work and can manage time effectively. That is to say that people can learn to complete their tasks in a specific time frame, and that would be helpful in their career. Therefore, they will not end up running out of time, and that can result in early promotions and raises in their career. To illustrate, a survey conducted by the Times of India revealed that 40% of the people admitted that they get promoted early as compared to others because they were able to complete their work ahead of time due to their proper planning.

To conclude, I believe that planning is important to be successful in life because it helps to achieve goals, and people learn skills like time management and organization with planning.

It is better for young people to get advice from old people than young ones. Agree or Disagree.

It is often believed that youngsters should receive advice from their elders instead of the same generation people. I completely agree with this statement and shall discuss the reasons in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, it is always recommended for young minds to consult their parents/ grandparents to seek valuable advice. This is because senior people are more experienced in all the phases of life which young generations would go through in the future. In other words, the pros and cons of any life situation could be understood thoroughly to prevent oneself from unpredicted negative consequences. As a result, children immersed themselves in following the rights paths as advised by experienced ones. For example, according to a survey conducted in metro cities of India found that the majority of the teenagers preferred to take suggestions from their old family members.

Furthermore, one can learn from other’s mistakes and make an excellent decision for her/ his endeavor. Since ancient times, elders always share their problems and their detrimental effects on their children/ grandchildren. This enables the listener to understand the right outcome and also it saves precious time by avoiding indulging in the same sort of errors. For instance, a recent study by Oxford University revealed that 75% of the students commit crimes such as drugs, alcohol, robbery, etc, these people are those who never involve their elders to the advice in their circumstances.

In conclusion, although young people are nowadays more self-reliable and independent, in my opinion, it is always advisable to get advice from their elders either at home or during schooling.
