The trend of online shopping is gaining grounds as a large number of people are flocking to websites to shop for the items they need. There are several merits and demerits associated with this mode of shopping for both customers and sellers and I will discuss them in this essay.

The advantages of buying online are that it saves customers time and money and provides them multiple options on one platform. Owing to the hectic work schedules, people do not get much time to go out for shopping and explore various options. Moreover, websites such as, Myntra, Amazon and Flipkart offer huge discounts during festive seasons, which help people to save money. Apart from this, companies get opportunities to expand their business far and wide, as people sitting in any corner of the world can place their order. Consequently, sellers find customers from far away. Evidently, online shopping provides benefits to both parties; write provides because the subject is the singular noun shopping.

Despite the aforementioned benefits, there are some drawbacks as well. Firstly, quality can be an issue as people cannot get their hands on the products they are buying. So, sometimes, they receive inferior quality products as in case of apparels. Besides this, color may vary from what is shown on the website. Therefore, online shopping is not completely reliable because sellers can sometimes send poor quality products and getting them exchanged can take time.

Similarly, companies also face challenges. One of the biggest challenges that online stores face is the difficulty in keeping customer information safe from hackers. Another downside is that it is not always easy to live up to the expectations of the buyer despite the best efforts. This may encourage people to return the items. Additionally, sometimes items get damaged during transit and the loss has to be borne by the company.

To conclude, although online shopping is becoming increasingly popular in society due to its fascinating buying and selling options, the advantages cannot be eclipsed by the disadvantages concerned with quality issues and transportation losses.
